A naïve teenager races a vicious smuggler to find a lost Mayan book that will save the world, only to discover the man is a reincarnated god -- and so is he.
Synopsis:
“I don't like leaving loose ends.”
What's a bigger loose end than not knowing if the sun will rise tomorrow?
Zack Roberts is a California teenager whose life is full of unanswered questions. He's also no history scholar. When he learns that the Mayans believe that time will stop on December 21st, 2012, it means nothing to him.
A week before the prophecy is supposed to come true, Zack's forced to join a dig at Tikal in the jungles of Guatemala with his uncle, his naiveté intact. The day he arrives, he witnesses a horrifying murder -- and Ramon Guzman, the murderer, knows it. The killer with the misshapen jaw and black, pointed teeth desperately wants what Zack took from the scene of the crime: a treasure map he can't read.
Zack meets Maria, a brilliant half-native girl who could probably read the map, if he could win her over. But should he believe her? Maria claims that Zack is destined to fight in a great Battle of the Gods—that he's descended from Mayan royalty who walked as gods on earth. Even the animal world knows she's right. Zack thinks she's nuts, especially when she says the map leads nowhere.
Zack comes to believe the map leads to a lost Calendar Codex, the most important painted book the Mayans ever created. Against all odds, he's become an avatar of the Great Jaguar God, sent to find the book and make sure the Universal Clock turns forward after December 21st.
But the terrible Crocodile God of the Depths, who has made Guzman his living presence, is ready to kill again for the book. And a croc never leaves loose ends.
